Delhaize Group appoints new CEO for Belgium and Luxembourg

Belgian international food retailer Delhaize Group has announced that Denis Knoops has been appointed as the new chief executive of Delhaize Belgium and Luxembourg.

Knoops succeeds Dirk Van den Berghe who resigned last week to accept a new role outside of the company. Delhaize Group said Knoops would be taking up his new role “immediately”.

Having worked for Delhaize Group for 22 years, Knoops has held a range of commercial, operational, strategic, and real estate roles across Belgium, the United States, and Asia. Since 2006 he has been a member of the Delhaize Belgium Executive Committee where he was most recently responsible for leading the network of affiliates as well as new markets and real estate.

Frans Muller, president and chief executive of Delhaize Group, said: “Denis is a seasoned leader with a strong customer orientation and a thorough knowledge of both food retail and Delhaize Group. I want to congratulate him on becoming the new CEO of Delhaize Belgium and Luxembourg and look forward to working with him.”

Delhaize Group, which operates 3,520 stores across three continents, reported revenues of €20.9 billion in 2013 with net profits of €179 million. At the end of 2013, the group employed approximately 160,000 people.
