Debenhams to increase menswear sizes
Debenhams is to increase the maximum size of its mens tops after seeing soaring demand for outsized clothing in its stores.
The retailer said sales of outsized clothing have surged by 126% in recent months. As a result, the maximum size of men’s top has been increased from XXL to XXXXXL to meet demand.
Debenhams is also increasing the maximum size of trouser waistlines from 40 inches to 48 inches, to cater for the nation’s burgeoning girth.
Lizzie Singleton, spokesperson for Debenhams, said: "Many of these men are Lawrence Dallaglio lookalikes - big and strong rather than overweight.
"We’re seeing the emergence of a new generation of super tall, big, British hunks – and they’re having a considerable impact upon the world of fashion."
Debenhams said that 65% of its menswear offer will be available in Big & Tall sizes for autumn winter 2013 and that it is already looking into increasing its sizes further next year.
