Debenhams launches dedicated stores on eBay and Amazon to grow multi-channel offer
As part of a move to extend its multi-channel proposition Debenhams has opened stores on both eBay and Amazon through that will extend its reach beyond its physical outlets and its own website.
Michael Sharp, deputy chief executive at Debenhams, says: “A strong presence on the web is essential for any modern day retailer. Our use of Amazon and eBay, as well as Debenhams.com, opens the door to millions of new customers allowing them to shop from our fantastic range of products wherever they are in the UK, all from the comfort of their own home.”
Debenhams eBay is an outlet store, featuring a range of homewares, electrical and gift ideas. The retailer is also using eBay’s deal of the day as an opportunity to sell large quantities of individual items.
Next up are plans to integrate the company’s in-store and online businesses, which is a key part of the company’s multi-channel developments that represents an important solution to its desire to extend the ranging for smaller stores and general availability across all stores. Other opportunities for growth include an international online business and the use of affiliates to drive additional footfall to online activities.
This will help grow its online sales further, following the increase of 31 per cent to £55.1 million in the year to August 29, but which still represent only a small proportion of total group sales.
