Cyber Monday sees record sales of pleasure products

Online seller of sex toys Lovehoney had the busiest day in its history on Monday - with sales up 53% on the same Monday last year.

Big sellers included chocolate body paint and other rude food (up 82%), silver balls (up 56%) and Magic Wands (up 45%).
Staff at the Bath-based company were so busy that co-founders Neal Slateford and Richard Longhurst were helping to pack boxes in the warehouse.

Cyber Monday in the US is the Monday after Thanksgiving - but in the UK the first Monday in December is traditionally thought to be the biggest day of the year for on-line sales because it is nearest to pay day.
However, Lovehoney expect the next two Mondays will be bigger for pleasure products - as people make last-minute purchases.
Matt Curry, e-Commerce manager at Lovehoney, said December 17 was likely to smash all records.

He said: "Fifty Shades of Grey has completely changed the retail landscape for the sales of pleasure products. They have well and truly entered in the mainstream and are on more and more people's lists as ideal presents.
"Gift Pack sales are up 314% on last year. Our Sexy Christmas Gift pack for Her (£40) saves you 40% off and takes the guesswork out of what to buy."
Lovehoney expect annual sales in 2012 to be up a third on 2011.

It has seen bumper sales of its Official Fifty Shades of Grey Pleasure Product Range, which it developed with the best-selling trilogy's author E L James. Lovehoney won the licensing rights to produce the accessories everywhere outside of North and South America.
It has set up a new wholesale company Omora to handle worldwide sale.

Hear Lovehoney co-founders Neal Slateford and Richard Longhurst present a Retailer Case Study: From Multichannel To Multinational Presence: Using The Right Mix Of Channel And Partnerships For Growth, at the Retail Bulletin's 4th Multichannel Retailing Summit 2013. Held in London on 6th February, delegates at this interactive day will from a range of top-class retailers and solutions providers. Click here for the programme and registration.
