CSL Sofas launches augmented reality app

Furniture retailer CSL Sofas has launched an iPhone app featuring augmented reality technology to enable customers to see how sofas will look in their living rooms before they buy.

In addition to the ‘In Your Room’ augmented reality feature, the app allows customers to view the retailer’s 12,000 items in its sofa catalogue and to use a CSL store locator.

A spokesman for CSL said: “We believe that online shopping is the future, but as far as sofas are concerned, it is important that people can really visualise the sofa in their own living room to make sure that they are making the right choice.

“It allows people to instantly see a real picture of their own living room with their potential new furniture already delivered and installed, all within seconds.”

To use the app, customers take a picture of their room and select an item of furniture from the catalogue.  The software then merges both together to provide a realistic vision of how the furniture item will appear in situ.

Founded in 1982, CSL was featured in the Mary Portas “Secret Shopper” television series in January 2011.
