Costa Coffee sales up 23%
Costa Coffee, the Whitbread owned coffee chain, saw underlying profits increase by 41.8% to £27.8 million in the six months to 1 September.
Worldwide sales increased by 23.3% to £383.6 million and like-for-like sales were up 6.7% helped by the success of its Ice Cold Costa range and international growth.
Costa opened 167 new stores during the period including its 100th store in China. The chain has recently celebrated the opening of its 2,000th store worldwide. Whitbread said the rollout of the Costa Express machines in service stations and other retail outlets was progressing well with 65 new units and 135 conversions.
The company is aiming to increase the Costa network by 75% to 3,500 stores worldwide.
