Comet gift vouchers are suspended
5 November 2012 | by The Retail Bulletin
The administrators of the failed electrical retailer Comet have suspended the use of gift vouchers as they hunt for a buyer for the 240-strong chain of stores.A notice on the retailer’s website states: "The administrators are currently considering the position in relation to gift cards and gift vouchers and at this stage they cannot be used to pay for items.
"The administrators are reviewing this position urgently."
Deloite, which was appointed as administrator on Friday, has said that all Comet stores will remain open while a buyer is sought and that staff will continue to be paid in the meantime. The company has placed a question and answers section on the Comet website which gives details of store locations and answers questions about the administration. It also states that a sale will be "coming soon".
The administration comes just months after Comet’s owner OpCapita bought the retailer for a token £2. The failure of the chain has put over 6,000 jobs at risk.
