Burberry appoints new non-exec director

Luxury brand Burberry has appointed Orna NiChionna as a non-executive director.

NiChionna is currently senior independent director at Saga and Royal Mail, where she also chairs the remuneration committee. In addition, she is currently deputy chairman of the National Trust and chair of client service at Eden McCallum.

Her previous experience includes almost two decades with management consultancy firm McKinsey & Company where she co-led its European retail practice. She has also previously been a senior independent director at HMV, Northern Foods and Bupa.

NiChionna has also become a member of the remuneration and nomination committees at Burberry.

Sir John Peace, Burberry chairman, said: "We are delighted to welcome Orna to the board. In addition to the experience she brings on remuneration matters, her strong UK plc and business experience will be a great asset to Burberry as we continue to focus on delivering long-term shareholder value.”

Meanwhile, US based Fabiola Arredondo has decided to step down as chair of the remuneration committee to focus on professional commitments in the US. NiChionna will succeed her as chair on 6 February although Arredondo will remain on the committee to assist in the transition.

Peace added: “On behalf of the board I would like to thank Fabiola for chairing the remuneration committee through a period of significant change and am delighted we will still be able to call on her experience both on the remuneration committee and the board."
