Women’s fashion retailer Bonmarché saw its like-for-like sales surge by 13.5% in its first quarter as good weather and its new summer ranges boosted trade.

GENERAL MERCHANDISE

Women’s fashion retailer Bonmarché saw its like-for-like sales surge by 13.5% in its first quarter as good weather and its new summer ranges boosted trade.

Total sales increased by 16.9% in the 13 weeks to 28 June. Online sales climbed by 53.5%.

Bonmarché, which was trading from 268 stores and concessions at the end of the period, said the board's expectations for the full year remain unchanged.

Beth Butterwick, Bonmarché chief executive, said: "We have made a good start to the new financial year and the spring/summer ranges have sold well - we are pleased at the response of customers to our improved offering.

“Our new store/concession opening programme has also begun well and is on track. The good weather enjoyed during the Q1 period has had a beneficial impact on sales, although at this early stage we are not altering our expectations for the current financial year."
