Womens fashion retailer Bonmarché saw its like-for-like sales decline by 7.7% in its first quarter due to weak demand for its high summer clothing ranges.
In the 13 weeks to 25 June like-for-like sales in stores fell by 8.1% while online sales dropped by 2.7%.
On a total basis sales edged down 3.6%.
Beth Butterwick, chief executive of Bonmarché, said: "Sales were down 3.6% in a challenging quarter, due to a lack of strong demand across our high summer clothing categories.
“We continue to focus on creating a more modern experience for our customers through the execution of our five strategic pillars for growth: brand development and customer acquisition, product development, channels to market, systems and processes, and people and culture.”
Bonmarché said its expectations for the full year remain unchanged provided that trading conditions “normalise” during the autumn season.
