Birmingham's redeveloped Mailbox over 70% let

Birmingham’s redeveloped Mailbox shopping centre has revealed that over 70% of its units are now let or in final negotiations ahead of its launch in Spring 2015.

The redevelopment will include a refurbished Harvey Nichols store situated at the heart of the centre which will more than double in size to 45,000 square feet.

Hugo Boss is the latest luxury fashion brand to commit to the Mailbox by taking a unit of over 3,000 square feet. Other brands signing up to the centre include Emporio Armani, LK Bennett, Jaeger and Gieves and Hawkes.

Melanie Taylor, head of leasing at Milligan, which is the development partner and joint owner of the Mailbox, said: “We are making great progress on the leasing side, and the exciting mix of retailers continues to set the bar high. With the refurbishment gearing up to completion we’ll soon be releasing the names of more high-profile luxury brands who have signed up to the scheme.”

In addition to retail and food and beverage brands, the shopping centre will include a new luxury three screen Everyman cinema which is set to open in early 2015.

The redevelopment project is transforming the entire retail mall which is being enclosed and skylit, creating an “urban room” with new facades, finishes and store frontages.

Harvey Nichols, Emporio Armani, Nicky Clarke, Toni & Guy and BBC Birmingham are remaining open throughout the refurbishment, along with the scheme’s bars, restaurants, hotels, commercial offices and car park.
