Best Buy stores to close on 15 January
Best Buys big box stores and website will close on 15 January less than two years after the company opened its first UK store in Thurrock.
All 11 stores in the UK, set up by the Best Buy Europe joint venture with Carphone Warehouse, will close with the majority of the 1,000 Best Buy staff expected to be offered roles within Carphone Warehouse.
The move follows an announcement in November 2011 in which Carphone Warehouse said it would focus on selling more electronics goods from the 805 Carphone Warehouse stores in the UK and 1,648 Phone House shops Europe.
Best Buy is currently holding a closing down sale, offering discounts of 25-50% on electrical goods.
In addition to Thurrock, the Best Buy “big box” stores are located in Hayes, Enfield, Croydon, Liverpool, Derby, Bristol, Nottingham, Rotherham, Dudley and Southampton.
