Asos sales up 19% in second quarter

Online fashion retailer Asos saw its retail sales climb by 19% in its second quarter as its strong growth in the UK continued.

In the three months to 28 February, UK retail sales increased by 30% while international retail sales rose by 12%. International sales accounted for 56% of the total compared to 60% in the same period in the previous year.

The results meant that retail sales grew by 14% in the six months to 28 February.

At the end of the period Asos had 9.3 million active customers, which was a 13% increase on the prior year.

Nick Robertson, Asos chief executive said: “Retail sales for the three months to 28 February 2015 grew by +19% (+22% on a constant currency basis), with strong growth continuing in the UK at +30%. We have also seen encouraging momentum in our international markets during the quarter at +12% (+16% on a constant currency basis) following the successful roll out of our zonal pricing capability and our planned price investments.”

Looking ahead Robertson added: “Our investments in our warehouse and IT platforms are on track. We expect profit before tax for the full year to be in line with market expectations.”
