Asda warns shoppers over fake gift card email
Shoppers are being warned not to open an email which appears to come from Asda amid fears that the email is from fraudsters looking to capture shoppersÂ’ personal details.
Some Asda customers have received an email telling them that they have won an Asda gift voucher worth between £50 and £1,000. The email with the subject "You have received a gift card from us" asks shoppers to click on a link to a website where they are asked to enter personal information such as name, address, date of birth, email address and mobile phone number. The website promises to enter customers into a prize draw to win a year’s free shopping at Asda.
As a result Asda has posted the following message on its Facebook page: ”WARNING: Do not respond to emails claiming to be from Asda with the subject: "You have just received a gift card from us". These emails are nothing to do with us and may be an attempt to capture your personal information. Please warn your friends."
A spokesman for Asda told the Daily Mail that the email did not come from the supermarket and suggested that customers contact its customer service department if they receive similar emails and want to check if they are legitimate.
