Asda on track to achieve £800 million worth of sustainability savings

Asda has announced that it is on track to deliver customer savings adding up to £800 million by 2020, due to its commitment to sustainability initiatives.

In a statement issued today the supermarket said it had saved over £70 million in 2010 by reducing waste and energy usage in its operations. It will had also delivered four years ahead of schedule on its promise to reduce absolute carbon emissions throughout its operations by 10%.

Asda said it had been working to stretch its  sustainability targets since 2005, when global parent Walmart announced its commitments to sustainable sourcing and reductions in energy use and waste.

Figures released today show that Asda has reduced its carbon emissions by 11.9% which exceeds the retailer’s target to achieve a 10% reduction by 2015.
