Argos trials festival store
Argos is using the Isle of Wight music festival, which opens this week, to trial a new model mobile store format. The new style 'festival store' will operate out of a specially adapted 60 ft trailer and carry 60 lines focussed on the needs of the festival go-ers. Staples like camping equipment and barbeques will be stocked alongside items like binoculars, camera memory cards and fancy dress outfits on the forecourt of a petrol station in Fairlee Road, Newport, the access road to the entrance to main camping site.
Argos has pulled the concept together in a few weeks, overcoming fundamental challenges such as installing storage shelving inside the trailer. They will also be using remote payment systems for the first time.
John Douglass, operations director for Argos said: “The festival store is an exciting new idea for the business and we will be following its performance closely with a view to using the concept at other events”.
Argos is aware that as the festival progresses the dynamic of the store will change. Products will be supplied from Argos Newport who are providing six experienced colleagues from the local store.
