Argos appoints Adam Archer as head of commercial transformation
Multi-channel retailer Argos has appointed former Marks & Spencer executive Adam Archer to the newly created role of head of commercial transformation.
In his new position, Archer will lead the IS Transformation programme within Trading and will report to Argos commercial director David Robinson.
Argos said the role would be key in helping to achieve its aim of becoming a digital retail leader, as announced in October 2012.
With 20 years of commercial retail experience built in the UK and Far East, Archer’s most recent role was at Marks & Spencer where he led the strategic planning team and then ran its China business. Prior to Marks & Spencer, Archer held several senior buying and merchandising roles at a number of retailers including Arcadia, Oasis, Miss Selfridge and Sears.
Commenting on the appointment, Robinson said: “This role is critical to our transformation plans for our buying teams and we are delighted to welcome Adam to the business. Our product based strategies are critical to our growth plans, which means offering customers more choice, available faster, and extending our reach by offering a more universally appealing offer, including extended ranges of branded and own brand product.
“Adam’s experience within this area will be critical as we invest in our IS infrastructure across the business to join channels and improve the digital shopping experience for our customers.”
Archer added: “This is a great time to join Argos as part of the leadership team on this exciting journey of digital transformation. My role is to deliver systems that enable the teams to plan and trade dynamically and efficiently, and help put Argos into a winning position”.
