American Eagle chooses Bluewater for first UK store

US clothing brand American Eagle Outfitters is to open its first UK store at the Bluewater shopping centre.

Situated on Bluewater’s Lower Thames Walk, the store is expected to open this autumn.

Simon Nankervis, American Eagle executive vice president for Americas and global country licensing, said: “We are excited to officially announce the upcoming launch of American Eagle Outfitters in the United Kingdom. We see a tremendous global appetite for the American Eagle Outfitters brand and believe that having a presence at Bluewater will provide great exposure for us in this significant new market.”

Earlier this year, Victoria’s Secret and Pink opened new stores at the Lend Lease operated centre while Adidas selected Bluewater for the European debut of its new HomeCourt concept.

Guy Thomas, head of retail leasing at Lend Lease, said: “American Eagle’s selection of Bluewater as a launch location highlights the unique strength of Bluewater’s catchment, which consists of both metropolitan consumers living in London and an equally fashion-conscious wider catchment drawn from the majority of the South East. This combination provides brands such as American Eagle with the best of both worlds.”

Bluewater has also announced that sales at the shopping centre increased by 8% in May compared to the same month last year.
