Amazon increases minimum wage

Amazon has announced that it is raising its minimum wage to £10.50 for the London area and £9.50 for the rest of the UK.

The increase will apply to all full-time, part-time, temporary and seasonal employees from 1 November. This will include more than 17,000 workers employed by Amazon and its subsidiaries and over 20,000 seasonal employees who will be hired at Amazon sites across the country during the festive season.

Doug Gurr, Amazon vice president and UK country manager, said: "We're excited to announce Amazon is raising our minimum wage for all full-time, part-time, seasonal, and temporary UK employees. This will impact more than 37,000 employees across the country, resulting in higher pay for them and their families."

Amazon said employees will still receive the same benefits that were in place prior to the increases.
