GENERAL MERCHANDISE

Most requested gift from Santa - a baby brother or sister

According to a survey of 2,000 British parents conducted by the Westfield London and Westfield Stratford City shopping centres, children would rather have a new baby or brother or sister for Christmas rather than the latest toys.

A new addition to the family was the top choice in letters to Santa amongst kids aged between three and twelve, closely followed by a reindeer then a pet horse. The fourth most in-demand gift was a car, even though the kids were too young to drive, while the fifth most requested present was a pet pooch.

While 17 out of the top 50 requests were for animals, including fish, cats and hamsters, there were also a number of more unusual pets in the list including chickens, elephants and donkeys.

With children’s letters to Santa filled with requests for the latest electronic gadgets this year, iPhones and iPads also appeared in the top 50 most desired Christmas gifts.

Mums might be a little surprised to hear that while ‘Dad’ came in at number 10, ‘Mum’ only made it in as the 23rd most requested present on their little one’s lists. Other requested gifts included the moon, a time machine, a pond cover and even a beetroot.

It looks like the age of celebrity culture has not escaped the youngest of minds with one child asking for Eva Longoria and another wishing that Harry from One Direction would come knocking on the door on Christmas morning.
