70% of UK will keep the true cost of Christmas presents to themselves
Christmas might be the season of good will to all men, but when it comes to our buying and giving of presents things aren't quite as transparent as we might think
According to research conducted by Savoo.co.uk, the voucher code website, 70% of those polled said they hid the true cost of the presents they buy for friends and family - buying items online at a discount, but claiming that they pay full price if asked.
When it comes to spotting a bargain it's women who have the eye and the patience with almost 50% of female shoppers saying they checked for any store discounts online to get a better price. The same can't be said for the men though; over a quarter of men said they wouldn't bother checking, buy the item anyway and end up spending more than they had budgeted.
Whilst Christmas might have an element of duplicity, the good news is those receiving gifts don't care about how much they cost with almost 60% (58.8%) saying it's the thought that counts. In a boost to Merseyside, Liverpudlians are the least price obsessed with 65.2% of Scousers saying they didn't care how much people spend on them whilst just across the border in Cardiff things were different with less than half (47%) taking the same attitude.
