Screwfix to create 600 new jobs in the UK and Ireland

Screwfix is planning to create 600 jobs this year through the opening of 40 new stores in the UK and ten in Ireland.

The roles will encompass retail management, service assistants and supervisors.

Screwfix currently operates 711 stores in the UK and 12 stores in Ireland and has opened an average of one store per week for the last five years. The trade retailer is now aiming to increase the total to over 900 as part of plans to grow its presence in inner cities and rural catchment areas.

John Mewett, Screwfix chief executive, said: “We’re delighted to be opening 50 new stores this year, creating 600 jobs. The growing demand for convenience means we now see scope for over 900 stores in the UK and Ireland, which will help our busy customers get their jobs done. We know that time is money for our customers and these new stores in the UK and Republic of Ireland enable us to provide our customers with added convenience and certainty, and provide even more job opportunities for local communities when they need it most.”

Earlier this year, Screwfix announced that it had reached a milestone £2 billion in annual sales. The retailer attributed much of the growth to a focus on ecommerce and the use of stores as fulfilment centres for click and collect deliveries which have surged during the Covid-19 pandemic.
