Waitrose opens new High Wycombe store
Waitrose has opened the doors to its new store in High Wycombe.
The branch will provide the latest Waitrose offer, including meat, fish and deli counters, a bakery, a wine department and the John Lewis ‘click and collect’ service. It is also one of the supermarket’s first stores to include a sushi counter.
Wycombe District Council Chairman, Cllr Ian McEnnis, joined branch manager Paul Taylor for the official unveiling, which was marked with a ribbon cutting before the first customers came through the doors.
Forming part of the Handy Cross redevelopment, the new branch has led to the creation 100 new jobs.
Taylor said: “We have made a major investment in High Wycombe, so are looking forward to making a positive contribution to the area through the quality and service we offer at the branch, our community initiatives and the 100 people we now employ.”
Waitrose has also launched a number of initiatives to support the local community. The retailer’s Community Matters ‘green token’ scheme will see £1,000 donated to local charities every month. The first causes to benefit will be the Wycombe Homeless Connection, Rennie Grove Hospice Care and the Chiltern MS Centre. Customers can nominate different charities each month, resulting in a total of £12,000 donated annually.
Cllr Ian McEnnis added: “I am delighted to welcome Waitrose to High Wycombe – and specifically to the Handy Cross Hub. The store is a fabulous complement to the new leisure centre and the coachway park and ride that opened earlier this year. In addition to offering shoppers more choice, I have no doubt that Waitrose’s community initiatives will have far reaching and long lasting benefits.”
