Mulberry founder steps down as chairman
Roger Saul to become president of clothing retailer
November 27 2002
Roger Saul founder of the Mulberry clothing brand and retail chain, has agreed to step down as chairman.
The decision follows a formal demand for an extraordinary general meeting of the company made by shareholder Challice, which is headed by Singapore entrepreneur Christina Ong.
Challice has a 41.5 per cent stake in the company, while Saul has 38 per cent. Saul and Ong are known to have disagreed about the direction of the company.
Saul, who founded Mulberry 32 years ago will become president and non-executive director, while deputy chairman and chief operating officer Godfrey Davis will take over as chairman and chief executive.
Davis said: “I am glad that the problem between Challice and Mulberry has been resolved. Roger has done an outstanding job of building Mulberry from scratch and developing the management team. I am delighted that we will continue to benefit from his input on the board.”
