M&S launches 46 websites in new markets

M&S has launched 46 flagship websites in new markets as it looks to “turbocharge” its online business.

The move is the next stage in the retailer’s plan to drive international growth through online channels under its recently established online, digital and data division, MS2.

The expansion means that M&S has extended its online reach to over 100 countries.

M&S said the websites have been launched using a low cost approach which combines an adaptable website platform specifically designed for its international business and customers. Orders from the websites are fulfilled through the retailer’s established distribution network.

Customers are able to choose from a broad range of M&S’ clothing and home products.

Paul Friston, M&S international director, said: “Our international business has seen strong online growth since the start of the pandemic as increasing numbers of customers choose to shop through our range of flagship websites. Under our Never the Same Again programme we’re focused on turbocharging our online business both in the UK and internationally, and as part of this we see a real opportunity in extending the number of countries where we run an online channel further.”

The retailer’s international online channels are now also available in ten additional languages and a wider range of currencies.

According to the BBC,  Steve Rowe, chief executive of M&S, has previously said his goal is to deliver long-term transformation and build a brand that is more digital “in a world that will never be the same again”
