M&S expands its retail, operations and property leadership team

Marks & Spencer has expanded its retail, operations and property leadership team with the appointment of Will Smith as property director and Helen Milford as retail director.

Both positions will report into Sacha Berendji, the company’s retail, operations and property director.

Berendji said: “Building a store estate that’s fit for the future with industry-leading store operations and empowered colleagues is a key part of our transformation programme.  We are building a world-class team across M&S and I’m delighted to welcome Helen and Will to the business as we drive our transformation forward at scale and at pace.”

Smith will join the company from Asda where he is currently working as vice president of real estate, facilities and market development. With his experience spanning property, strategy and general management, he will be responsible for driving M&S’s plans to transform its store estate.

Meanwhile, Milford is joining from Argos where she holds the position of director of retail on the management board. Prior to this, she worked with Boots and Asda. In her new position she will be supported by four heads of division and will lead the company’s 70,000 store staff.
