Games Workshop posts increase in sales and profits

Games Workshop, the retailer of fantasy game figurines, has posted increases in both its full year sales and profits following strong performances at its hobby oriented businesses and in North America.

In the year to 2 June 2013, revenue increased to £134.6 from £131 million in the prior year while pre-tax profit rose to £21.4 million from £19.5 million previously.

The retailer attributed the increase in sales to a mix of strong performances at its Forge World and Black Library hobby oriented businesses and in its North American region, and to “less good performances” in the UK and continental Europe.

Games Workshop acting chief executive Tom King said: “Games Workshop has had a mixed year. Sales were stronger in the first half than the second, but cost control and cash management have strengthened throughout the period. We finish the year with the most profit this company has generated since flotation and have returned £18.4 million to our owners.”
