Clinton Cards celebrates

Christmas focus pays off for card retailer
January 16 2003
A focus on the key Christmas sales period has paid dividends for Clinton Cards, with like-for- like sales up by 4.6 per cent in the five weeks to December 29.

The retailer boosted sales space in the run-up to Christmas, opening around 15 larger format stores during 2002.
Clinton also extended the number of calendar-only stores in operation during the Christmas sales period, building in a successful trial in 2001. Around 80 stores opened from October through to the New Year, mainly in shopping centres and temporary shop units.
Clinton Cards operates around 700 stores, as well as concessions in Debenhams department stores.
