BRC and ITN to launch new film project on the future of shopping

A new film project by the British Retail Consortium and ITN Productions is to investigate the future of British shopping.

Entitled ‘The Changing Face of Retail, the programme will build on the BRC’s recent industry report, ‘Retail 2020’, which predicts fewer but better jobs in the retail sector during the next ten years.

It will explore what changes in the way people shop will mean for businesses, staff and consumers, and analyse the impact of Brexit on the retail industry.

The film will be fronted by newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky and will take the form of a current affairs style programme.

Currently in pre-production, ITN Productions is looking for people working in the retail industry to share their story and be part of the film.

Helen Dickinson, chief executive of the BRC, said: “Retail is woven into the fabric of our everyday lives. But the rate of change within the retail industry is set to quicken as the digital revolution advances, more property leases come up for renewal, labour costs go up and technology costs go down. As the voice of the British retail industry, we’re pleased to be partnering with ITN Productions to detail what the future of retail will look like.”

The film will be launched at the BRC’s ‘Retail 2020’ event on 16 May.

Retailers interested in participating in the programme should contact David Ives, programme director at ITN Productions, on 020 7430 4266 or david.ives@itn.co.uk.

The programme will include interviews, news items and sponsored editorial profiles.
