Banana Republic creative director to step down

US fashion brand Banana Republic has announced that its creative director and executive vice president for design is to leave the business.

Simon Kneen, who has been in the position since January 2008, will depart the Gap owned business at the end of the year after helping Banana Republic to manage a transitional period while his replacement is sought.

Meanwhile Julie Rosen, a 19-year veteran of Gap, will continue in her role as executive vice president of Banana Republic North America, leading the merchandising and inventory management teams.

Jack Calhoun, global brand president for Banana Republic, said: “In the last five years with the brand, Simon has led with passion, creativity and a thoughtful approach to designing modern and versatile styles for professional men and women. As we compete to win on the global stage, now is the right time to make a change.”

Kneen’s final collection for Banana Republic will be Summer 2014.
