Waitrose rolls out bookable shopping slots

Following a trial of bookable shopping slots over the summer, Waitrose has extended the service to more than 110 stores.

Free of charge, the service allows customers to pre-book a shopping slot to enable them to avoid any queues outside stores during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Customers can reserve slots on the retailer’s website up to seven days in advance of their store visit. They will then receive a confirmation email and will be sent a reminder 24 hours in advance of their slot.

Waitrose said the service will continue to run until early January. The retailer has also extended its its opening hours in the run-up to Christmas with most shops opening until 11pm.

Steven Hand, head of customer experience at Waitrose, said: “We’re all looking forward to Christmas this year and whilst things will feel a little different to usual, we’re doing all we can to make our customers’ grocery shop as safe, easy and convenient as possible.  Our pre-bookable slots are just another way we’re doing this and will give peace of mind to those who like to plan ahead and avoid queues.”

Waitrose is continuing to prioritise its elderly, disabled and vulnerable customers whenever there is a  queue. Other shoppers given priority include NHS workers and carers.
