Waitrose recognised for highest standards of animal welfare

Waitrose has been named as the supermarket with Europe’s highest standards of animal welfare.

The supermarket has won the Europe wide Compassion in World Farming ‘Best Retailer Award’ for the second time.

The awards recognise and reward producers, manufacturers, food service companies, retailers and public bodies across the world for working in a sustainable and responsible way.

Waitrose has also won this year’s CIWF ‘Best Retailer Marketing Award’ for promoting farm animal welfare to customers with its multi-channel ‘Everything we do goes into everything you taste’ campaign, which highlights the supermarket’s free-range eggs and dairy grazing pledge.

Dr Tracey Jones, director of food business for CIWF, said: “Waitrose has been a leader in the field of farm animal welfare for a number of years and their commitment is evident in the three awards they have received this year. They set an excellent example to other food businesses and we look forward to seeing how their successful advertising campaign will be rolled out across other species in the autumn, to help drive awareness of higher welfare products available on Waitrose’s shelves and influence the nation’s buying habits.”
