Waitrose extends ‘While You’re Away’ service to more postcodes

Waitrose is extending the trial of its ‘While You’re Away’ delivery service from 300 to 818 postcodes.

The scheme enables online shoppers to have their groceries delivered inside their homes and put away while they are out. The whole delivery is captured on a chest-cam worn by the driver. The video is then available on request for the customer to view from the next working day.

Customers’ shopping is delivered from the supermarket’s Coulsdon fulfilment centre in Surrey.

Waitrose says the service has been well received by the initial 50 customers taking part in the trial. The expansion of postcodes will result a 200% increase in the number of customers participating.

John Lewis Partnership’s Richard Ambler said: “This service has great potential to revolutionise the way people do their shopping in the UK and the goal of extending this trial is to find just how much of an appetite there is for the service. So far, the response from customers has been hugely positive and we welcome anyone that is interested in the service to visit our website and sign up.”

The supermarket is also looking at other potential services to be added to the scheme.
