SPAR Launches SPARaoke – The nation’s first convenience store karaoke competition

This summer promises to be the definitive season of sports, and for convenience stores, it’s the biggest retail moment outside of Christmas. SPAR, the nation’s local convenience store, today announced its ‘Make Me a Champion’ summer campaign, introducing an innovative and entertaining twist.

With burgers, chips, dips, strawberries, and cream all dominating summer baskets, SPAR is offering a unique way to win these sporting favourites. For the first time ever, SPAR will be transforming store customers into karaoke stars with SPARaoke – the nation’s first convenience store karaoke competition!

Customers simply need to listen out for a true sporting anthem on SPAR radio in-store. Grab the SPAR mic and sing along to win their basket. SPARaoke is a new twist on feeling like a Champion this summer.

With over 100 participating stores across England and Wales, the campaign is designed to inspire colleagues, create fun and a ‘Champion’ atmosphere, as well as provide light-hearted relief from the stress of football, the Olympics, Paralympics, and tennis.

Sarah Ellis, Group Marketing Director of AF Blakemore & Son, commented, “Like many retailers, we are gearing up for one of the biggest sporting summers on record. However, we are also in a head-to-head battle for that all-important summer pound. Our ‘Make Me a Champion’ campaign is designed to excite and entertain our customers across England and Wales. It’s a point of differentiation – where else can you act out your karaoke talents, become a singing Champion, while doing your local shop? Likewise, we wanted to create a moment that would involve our wonderful store staff, who do so much for their local communities. It’s a unique campaign that provides differentiation at a local level.”

To kickstart SPARaoke across England and Wales, A. F. Blakemore will leverage their new partnership with Glamorgan County Cricket Club and offer the audience a chance to take part in SPARaoke. Fans can bring their best karaoke skills to the big screen and sing along. Selected participants will then win a SPAR hamper from their local SPAR store.

SPARaoke Saturdays will launch on 22nd June 2024 and run consecutively until 13th July 2024. Over 100 SPAR stores in the UK and Wales will be offering their customers a chance to win their entire basket for free and a chance to enter a prize draw to win a month’s groceries!*

SPARaoke Saturdays offer SPAR customers the chance to sing in-store to become their local champion. Selected SPAR stores across England and Wales will sporadically play an iconic champion song every Saturday for a month. When you hear the song in-store, run to the mic and take your moment to SPARaoke!

As part of the bigger summer ‘Make Me A Champion’ campaign, SPAR will also be touring the UK with their food trucks across the summer at the Royal Norfolk Show, Shrewsbury Food Festival, and the Royal Welsh Show, as well as selected stores. Sample new treats and find old favourites with their iconic SPAR food trucks.
