Sainsbury’s food-to-go lines to be piloted in WH Smith stores

Sainsbury’s is to supply a range of food-to-go items to be sold in nine WH Smith travel and hospital stores across the UK.

According to The Grocer, the pilot scheme will be starting next week with the food on offer including products such as tea, pasta, cookies, croissants, salads and sandwiches.

Michael Luck, Sainsbury’s director for business development, told The Grocer: “From next week we will be conducting a trial with WH Smith where a limited range of Sainsbury’s sandwiches, snacks and light meals will be available in a select number of their travel stores.”

The trial will be operated across WH Smith stores at Luton Airport, East Midlands Airport, Bristol Temple Meads station, Cardiff Central station, Kings Cross station, Wishaw General Hospital, Monklands District Hospital, Lister Hospital in Stevenage, and Court Road, Chelmsford.

Toby Keir, WH Smith’s managing director of its UK travel business, said the move was part of WH Smith’s ongoing plans to explore new opportunities and trial new products to add to existing ranges.

If successful, the initiative could be extended to further WH Smith stores
