Morrisons launches ‘Speedy Shopping’ for basket customers

The Morrisons supermarket chain has introduced ‘Speedy Shopping’ lanes both inside and outside its stores for customers doing smaller ‘basket’ shops.

The new system aims to ensure that customers wanting to shop for a small basket of items will queue for less time outside a store and checkout quicker once inside.

In the new exterior shopping lanes, three Speedy Shopping customers will be invited inside stores for every big shop trolley shopper.

The  supermarket has introduced special signage to indicate the separate lanes and customers will also be guided to the correct lane by Morrisons marshalls.  Once they have completed their shop, customers with baskets can choose to pay at dedicated staff operated or self scan Speedy Shopper checkouts.

David Potts, chief executive of Morrisons, said: “It’s fair that customers doing smaller shopping trips should queue for less time too. Speedy Shopping will ensure that Morrisons stores will be more convenient for customers wanting a small basket of items.”
