Morrisons and Amazon to expand same-day delivery service

Morrisons and Amazon are expanding their same-day grocery delivery service to include more cities across the UK.

The service is currently offered to Amazon Prime Now customers in Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham. It is also available in someĀ  parts of London and the home counties.

It will be extended to Glasgow, Newcastle, Liverpool, Sheffield and Portsmouth during 2019. There are also plans to expand it to more UK cities in future years.

The service enables customers to order a full Morrisons shop online, which is then picked at a local Morrisons store and delivered by Amazon.

David Potts, Morrisons chief executive, said: “Amazon has been a valued partner of Morrisons for over three years, and we are pleased to be expanding our relationship together. Continuing to partner with the best digital operators such as Amazon is a significant, capital light growth opportunity for Morrisons.”

The move will include Morrisons becoming a retailer on Amazon’s Prime Now website and app through Morrisons at Amazon’. The supermarket will continue to be a wholesaler for all Amazon’s other UK grocery offers for customers.
