Asda to more than double its electric grocery home shopping fleet
Asda is to more than double its electric grocery home shopping fleet to 194 vehicles as it continues to work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across its business.
With the rollout starting this month, the supermarket will invest £1.3 million in launching an additional 112 home delivery vans and charging points at stores across the UK.
Asda expects 21 of its UK stores to operate a fully electric home delivery van fleet by September. Across these stores, the electric vehicles are expected to make over 1 million deliveries during the remainder of the year.
The vehicles will also help to save 1700kg of CO2 emissions per year.
Emma Newton, senior director – ecommerce last mile for Asda, said: “We’re always looking at how we can better serve our customers and for new ways to reduce our carbon emissions as a business, so we’re delighted to be more than doubling our electric fleet of grocery home shopping vehicles.”
Asda first rolled out electric delivery fleets at its stores in Gillingham Pier, Old Kent Road and Sheffield Chaucer in 2023 and last year invested in two new Bio-LNG refuelling facilities.
