UNIQLO to open first store in Denmark

UNIQLO, the Japanese fashion retailer, is to enter the Danish market with a new store in Copenhagen.

Due to launch in the spring of 2019, the shop on Strøget will span around 1,400 square metres across three levels and offer the brand’s LifeWear range for men, women and children.

Taku Morikawa, chief executive of UNIQLO Europe, said: “We are pleased to be announcing our next phase of growth in Scandinavia with the launch of our first store in Denmark next year, on the renowned Strøget in Copenhagen. We look forward to introducing the UNIQLO brand and our LifeWear concept to Danish customers, who appreciate well designed, functional and high quality clothes.”

The store will occupy part of an historic building that housed a dress shop in the 1840s run by clothier Louise Christine Rasmussen, who later became the wife of King Fredrick VII of Denmark. The façade will feature elements from the original classic style architecture, as will parts of the interior of the store.

Following the news earlier this year that UNIQLO will launch in Sweden and the Netherlands this autumn, Denmark will become the company’s ninth country in Europe.

UNIQLO operates 11 stores in the UK, 25 in France, 29 in Russia and five in Germany. It also has three stores in Belgium and two shops in Spain.
