Primark double deal for New River in Hastings and Belfast

Primark has signed two deals with New River in which it will take former BHS units in the Priory Meadow shopping centre in Hastings and the Abbey Centre in Belfast’s Newtownabbey.

In Hastings, work on the 29,800 square foot store will begin in the spring of 2018 and be completed in the summer of the following year. With other retailers at the centre including the likes of H&M, Topshop, M&S, River Island and New Look, the new letting brings the centre occupancy to 100%.

Stuart Mitchell, director at New River, said: “We have worked closely with Primark and to have them expand into our portfolio demonstrates the calibre of our assets and their locations, helping Primark fulfil expansion into their target catchments. The centre being fully let reinforces Priory Meadow’s reputation as a key south coast destination for retailers, and gives our 8.5 million annual shoppers to the centre a full and varied shopping experience.”

Meanwhile, Primark is upsizing its trading space at the Abbey Centre in Newtonabbey by 75% by taking the former BHS unit. The retailer will move into the 26,700 square foot space next summer.

In the last 18 months, the Abbey Centre has seen the arrival of a brand new 42,000 square foot full-range Next store, an extended and refurbished Dunnes Stores and the introduction of New Look, Caffé Nero and Nando’s.

Emma Mackenzie, director at New River. said: “We are thrilled to have secured Primark’s upsize at Newtownabbey, testament to the growing popularity of the Abbey Centre as a convenient fashion retail and leisure destination for the local community and beyond. Primark is taking the former BHS store and we are working on various other opportunities for the existing Primark store once they vacate.”

Primark has also confirmed that it will be opening a new store at the Bluewater shopping centre in 2019.
