Next closes online operations due to coronavirus concerns

Fashion and homewares retailer Next took the decision to close its online operations last night following concerns expressed by staff working in its warehouses and distribution centres.

The move follows the government’s forced closure of non-essential stores due to the coronavirus pandemic earlier this week.

Next said it will not be taking any more online orders until further notice but will try to make arrangements to dispatch existing orders not sent out last night as soon as it can.

In a statement on its website, Next said: “We have listened carefully to our warehouses and distribution operations. It is clear that many increasingly feel that they should be at home in the current climate. As a result, we have taken the difficult decision to close our warehouse and distribution operations until further notice.”
