New Look gets new distribution centre

DTS Logistics manages contract from Newcastle-Under-Lyme
Fashion retailer New Look has chosen DTS Logistics to manage its new, automated national distribution centre at Newcastle-Under-Lyme.

Construction of the new site is underway and the operation is scheduled to start in Autumn 2005. Automation specialist PSB has worked closely with New Look and DTS Logistics in developing the specification for the new site, which will be one of the largest and most sophisticated garment handling centres in Europe. The new warehouse and transport operation will run from the single site at Newcastle-Under-Lyme. DTS Logistics will manage the transport and distribution operation on a hub and spoke basis with additional outbases strategically situated across the UK. The new national distribution centre is equipped with automated distribution conveyors stretching for over 16kms including, overhead garment transport systems, sortation systems for hanging garments, mini load storage and retrieval, and crane pallet handling systems and conveyers. The warehouse also contains three levels of offices, 10 inbound and 11 outbound docks, internal mezzanines on two additional working levels, high cube utilisation with floor to eaves racked storage and full canteen and employee facilities. New Look operations director Alan Osborne said: “We chose DTS Logistics as our partner because of its accessible management; their innovative flexible style and the capability of its management team. We look forward to building an excellent operation together.” Group sales and marketing director Michael Daly said: “The New Look project is a major development and demonstrates the progress we have made in building effective relationships with our key customers. It is also the first major contract win for the expanded DTS Logistics since we joined Clipper Group.” Sharon Thomas, New Look project director at DTS Logistics, said: “New Look is a highly successful and growing retailer and we are pleased to support its end-to-end supply chain with an efficient and flexible service. We have provided New Look with a largely automated operation in response to the need for the rapid availability of merchandise to the shop floor and cost efficiency.”
