American Eagle and Aerie to expand into Europe

American Eagle Outfitters has announced that its American Eagle and Aerie brands will be expanded across Europe through a multi-year license agreement with AEO EU, a partnership of European brand builders led by Sunil Shah.

The company said the first American Eagle stores will open in Ireland this summer. This will be followed by the launch of an ecommerce site and a three-year bricks-and-mortar expansion strategy across the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands.

Jay Schottenstein, chief executive of American Eagle Outfitters, said: “Global expansion is a major growth opportunity for AEO and we are excited to take our leading American Eagle and Aerie brands to vibrant consumer markets across Europe. The AEO EU team brings deep market expertise and strong connections enabling us to create the best possible brand experience for local consumers.”

American Eagle Outfitters operates more than 1,000 stores in the US, Canada, Mexico, China and Hong Kong, and ships to 81 countries worldwide through its websites.
