John Lewis sales up 7.6% last week

John Lewis has reported that sales grew by 7.6% year-on-year last week to £85.4 million.

Fashion had an exceptionally strong week with sales up 18.4%. With autumn/winter clothing driving sales, both menswear and womenswear saw double digit growth. The department store’s own brand womenswear category was particularly successful as the new Eudon Choi x Modern Rarity collection had its first full week in shops and online.

Home sales rose by 5.8% helped by a 7.6% uplift in sales of gifts and cook and dine products. Sales of textiles and home accessories increased by 7.7%. Blinds also enjoyed a good week, with sales rising by 12%.

Electricals and home technology sales edged up 1.6% as audio put in a strong performance driven by a Sonos promotion celebrating the brand’s 15-year anniversary.
