John Lewis sales up 11.9% last week

Total sales at the John Lewis department chain rose by 11.9% year-on-year last week as customers purchased new season items due to the cooler weather.

Fashion sales climbed by 13.7% after trade was boosted by a promotion. Womenswear and menswear sales increased by 28% and 25.9% respectively and cashmere was also popular with customers.

Home sales rose by 13.8% as customers began to buy Christmas products such as quirky baubles.  Sales in the furniture and flooring category were up 7.4% while carpet sales increased by 26%.

Meanwhile, electrical and home technology sales saw an uplift of 9.5% following  strong sales in the small electricals category.
