DEPARTMENT STORE NEWS

John Lewis sales up 0.3% last week

Department store chain John Lewis grew its sales by 0.3% year-on-year last week to £114.5 million.

Electrical and home technology sales climbed by 7.8% as shoppers took advantage of early Black Friday deals. Mobile sales were particularly strong as customers purchased the new iPhone X.

Home sales fell by 1.4% although sales of tree decorations were up 8% and the retailer enjoyed a second strong week of sales of ‘Moz The Monster’ products linked to its Christmas advert.

Fashion sales were down 3.8% due to changes in annual competitor promotions which particularly impacted sales of beauty products. However, clothing sales were up 3.6% as trade was helped by the colder weather.
