John Lewis sales up 0.1% last week

John Lewis saw its sales edge up 0.1% year-on-year to £151.9 million last week.

Electricals and home technology sales climbed by 1.4% on last year as trading was boosted by a good week in the mobile category with the iPhone 10 performing particularly well. In addition, the colder weather helped sales of heating products to rise by 23%.

The dip in temperatures drove fashion sales to an increase of 0.5% in the week. The retailer said the category saw a new record for cashmere in womenswear, with sales up 24%.

Home sales were down 1.4% on last year despite an uplift of 9% in Cookshop sales. The filled bed linen category continued to perform well, with sales of 13.5 tog duvets up 9.2%.
