John Lewis & Partners sales down 10.4% last week

Sales at the John Lewis department store chain fell by 10.4% year-on-year last week.

Fashion sales dropped by 16.6%, although sales of beauty items and premium accessories both rose as customers took advantage of a range of promotions.

Electrical and home technology sales edged down 2.5% overall, but the laundry and cooking appliance categories both performed well with respective uplifts of 5% and 6%.

Meanwhile, home sales declined by 14.1%. However, the retailer’s Christmas shop saw its sales increase by 22.1% due to customers preparing for Christmas earlier this year. There was also an uplift in sales of experience gifts which rose by 92% on the same week last year.
