Zara launches e-commerce site
Zara is set to launch an e-commerce site tomorrow (2nd September), which will offer customers the option of 48-hour delivery.
The fashion retailer will provide all products currently stocked at its bricks and mortar stores to customers in France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain and the UK.
Pablo Isla, Inditex Deputy Chairman and CEO, said: "The strategic significance of this new commercial initiative, which is in keeping with our ongoing effort is to offer our customers the best service possible.
“The internet and the world of social networking are indispensable tools and extraordinary channels for communication, and fit perfectly with our group's philosophy.”
Verdict Research expects Zara’s online sales to quickly surpass the average sales of a typical Zara store as the convenience and immediacy of the online channel will make it the first port of call for Zara customers to access the latest fashion from the popular clothing chain.
Simon Chinn, retail consultant at Verdict Research comments: “Zara’s core customer base is a tech savvy bunch epitomised by its over 4.5 million fans on facebook and its highly popular iPhone app, which has been downloaded more than 3.5 million times. There is clearly demand for Zara product online.”
Far from cannibalising its physical store sales, Chinn believes the online channel will comfortably complement its extensive store estate adding an extra level of service for its customers. “Zara Online will offer the same prices and ranges as its physical stores and its lenient returns policy will extend to online orders, allowing customers to return goods purchased online to stores.”
