Weekend Kitchen with Waitrose secures second run on Channel 4

Waitrose has revealed that Channel 4 has confirmed a 14 episode re-commission of Weekend Kitchen with Waitrose.

Developed by Waitrose and Spun Gold TV, the 60 minute show made its debut in April last year and ran for an initial 12 episodes.

Reflecting content from the supermarket’s free weekly newspaper Waitrose Weekend, the Saturday morning show featured chefs such as Heston Blumenthal, Raymond Blanc, Michel Roux Jnr and Angela Hartnett cooking up recipes live on set using Waitrose ingredients while hosts Lisa Snowdon and Steve Jones chatted with celebrity guests.

Rupert Ellwood, head of marketing communications at Waitrose, said: “We’re very pleased to be going ahead with the second series. The first run informed and entertained viewers as well as helping us to reach our target audience. Traditional advertising is still crucial but this TV format gives us a chance to connect with viewers in a meaningful way. There was also the added benefit of some great sales uplifts on ingredients featured by celebrity chefs in their recipes.”

The new series will continue to focus on food and entertainment while expanding on its lifestyle content. As well as featuring celebrity chefs and guests, the series will profile young artisan food producers and include slots on gardening and homeware tips.

David Sayer, head of daytime at Channel 4, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Weekend Kitchen with Waitrose back for a second series, the show has proved a great fit for Channel 4’s Saturday morning schedule with Steve and Lisa the perfect combination to present the show.”
